can you add luster dust to royal icing.. and use it to pipe on details.
I found this here on CC awhile back. I haven't tried it yet, so I have no idea what type of results you might get with it.
Luster dust is very small particle and very expensive, so I would say try just a very small amount. I think you'll get a lot more bang for your buck by painting the dry royal with a mixture of luster dust and lemon extract.
Piping silver and gold
saw a few posts asking how to make gold and silver for piping.....found this recipe and thought I would share it:
2 ts. Powdered sugar
2 ts. gold silver or metallic dusting powder
clear alcohol
1 ts. piping gel
On a small ceramic plate, mix sugar and dusting powder. Add a few drops of clear alcohol (gin or vodka is suggested) and mix with a small palette knife to create a stiff paste
Add the piping gel, a little at a time, mixing well until the consistency for piing in reached. Use a very small piping bag and tip as needed. The leftovers can be put into a small container and stored in the refrigerator. It will keep indefinitely

Thank you BlakesCakes for your response.. I'm wondering if the piping gel will allow it to get hard...Thanks again. I'll have to try it.
I don't know about the above mixture, but when you put piping gel in royal icing it getts hard.
