I am going to make a cake for my dad . . . he likes the toffee flavor. The only thing I can come up with to do a toffee cake is to add the English Toffee LorAnn flavoring to the batter / icing and then to add chopped up Heath bars to the filling. Any other / better ideas? I could not find a toffee flavored filling or cake online that was suitable for decorating.

Your plan sound great to me!

Here is a link for a recipe for one using chocolate cake as a base, but I think your idea would have more toffee flavor.

About 8 years ago, there was a cake in MS Living that was chocolate ganache and had broken toffee pieces all over it. It almost looked like stained glass or broken glass. I loved it. My husband had a bakery make it for my surprise birthday party. It was wonderful. You could do the broken toffee around the sides and decorate the top. It would make a great "masculine" cake. I'll try to find a picture of it.

P.S. What kind of base flavor for cake? Butter comes to mind since that's kind of the base for toffee anyway. Oh man the thought of this is making me hungry...glad it's lunch time!!!

Could you make a yellow cake and add toffee pudding mix to it?

I found a picture of the cake I was describing with the broken toffee pieces on it. I'm sure I have the complete recipe if you're interested. Please note I did not physically make this cake, this is a picture of the one a bakery made for my birthday.[/img]

I thought I had toffee pudding mix, so I looked and it's butterscotch. But toffee pudding is GREAT! I also make homeade toffee pudding for the holidays (and when I crave it)

Yeah - it's pretty good stuff - especially since I tried roasting the almonds a little first. YUM. Be glad to send you some! Only thing is I burn the heck out of myself every time.

Hey ckkerber - just had a thought. You might be able to use the toffee base like the syrup in IMBC. That has potential to be really yummy. Add some of the crushed toffee for a filling...if you want to try that I'll be glad to share the recipe.

Thanks for all of the ideas! I was going to make the white velvet butter cake (cake bible) . . . can't do chocolate as my dad absolutely does not like chocolate (though he eats it whenever it's in front of him -- I don't even pretend to understand that). I will definitely post how it all turns out!

The toffee cake turned out pretty well! I just added LorAnn's English Toffee flavor to the batter and the buttercream (I did add a bit too much to the buttercream but it was still good). Then, I added crushed up Heath bars to the buttercream to use as a filling. The cake that I made was the white velvet butter cake from the Cake Bible and I wasn't blown away by it. It seemed a bit dry and heavy. I am wondering if I just over-baked it because so many people raved about that recipe. I'll have to try that one again and see if it comes out differently.

Nickshalfpint -- I am going to try the toffee cake recipe that you PM'd to me . . . i will let you know how it turns out! Thanks!
