I have bought the Crystal look cake stand display. This display is for individual cakes (12, 10, 8, 6). Question, because I went to the store to buy cake boards to put under my cakes prior to putting them on the stand and the worker there told me to buy a board 2 inches larger. I don't think that would look right. When I view cakes on CC and they have used the exact stands I don't see any cake boards. What size cake board should I use? How do I put these cakes on the stand? Do I wait to do the bottom boarder at the site when I have assembled the cake? I really appreciate any help I can get. icon_cry.gif

There is no way a normal border is going to cover that 2". I would just use boards to fit the cakes to protect your stand because you want the stand to show, not something else.

Maybe the worker was thinking of the cake separator plates rather than the boards under the cake that go ON the plates...?

For boards under cakes, use the same exact size as the cake (6" for 6" etc), and put THAT on a cake separator plate that is 2" larger than the cake--so a 6" cake on a 6" board would go on an 8" plate, etc.

You want your border to cover the board, which protects the separator plate, and you want your separator plate to have enough room at the edge so your border doesn't get ruined or bumped in transit.

You can put the cakes on the boards right on the separators and put the borders all on before transporting or setting up. I use some sticky putty to hold the bottom of the cake board to the separator plate, or your cake will slide all over on the plate. You can also use corn syrup, double-sided tape, whatever...Just make sure you transport the cakes in boxes the exact size of the separator plates, and your borders will be fine.

For your bottom cake tier, it's also recommended to use a plate 4" larger than the cake (a 14" plate or cake stand for a 10" cake), so you really have some extra room around the bottom. Any smaller and you really run the risk of having your bottom border be messed up.

Hope that helps.

Thank you! I certainly appreciate everyones help. Also the note about the sticky putty or tape. I was wondering how stable the cakes would be on the columns. I will post pictures soon.
