All,
I am wondering what is the best way to attach turrets when making a castle cake. The one castle cake I made, the turets started falling away from the cake and I had to use about 50 toothpicks and lots of prayers that they didn't collapse.
I want to make a princess castle cake for my DD. I am concerned about it though. I have seen them made of paper towel rolls covered in fondant. Debbie brown says to use 3 yodels end to end, connected with icing (that doesn't seem steady). I just don't know.
But even once I make the turrets, how do I attach them to the cake and/or cake board???
Someone please help!
I have only made one castle cake (you can look in my photos) and I used paper towel rolls covered in BC. I stacked my cake the way I wanted and then placed each turret where I wanted them. I pushed them about 1/2" into bottom layer and secured them with cookie sticks to help hold them in place. You couldn't see the cookie sticks since they were inside the roll. It worked great for me and they didn't budge! Good Luck
I did a castle cake recently too (in photos) and used paper towel roll and cones for turrets. The paper towel roll fit right inside a sugar cone...then I squeezed a little icing on the inside of the cone at the point to serve as "glue" then stuck a dowel rod up inside, then pushed the dowel down through the cake. I had to travel 25 miles to deliver the cake and it held up beautifully! No leaning or falling over! ![]()
