Last week I was looking for a spy themed cake for my son's birthday party and got a couple of great ideas from the website. I made the cake for the party using those ideas. Please know, I'm very new to cake decorating....but I posted the picture of the cake even though it's pretty sloppy. I originally intended to make it look like someone had taken a bite from one of the corners of the cake and have the kids "solve the crime". I didn't have to worry about that idea because the end of the top layer disappeared anyway. Only having about 12 hours left and needing some sleep-- I worked with it! Thank goodness 7 year olds aren't too discriminating. I'm only posting it because there aren't a lot of spy ideas and I liked the concept. For the magnifying glass, I made a tiny round cake with black icing on the sides and white on the top. I used a thin layer of clear gel over the white to make it look like glass. Someone suggested that on one of the posts I read for ideas. The handle of the magnifying glass is just black icing.

The kids loved it and it tasted wonderful. I'll definitely keep practicing. icon_rolleyes.gif

what a creative idea! one of my nephews is really into solving mysteries (grew up on scooby doo lol) - I think he'd love something like that. I especially like how you made the letters inside the glass bigger!
