I don't know how else to word this ? My sisters father inlaw just past away. They are have a little service for him tomorrow. But on the 16th of Sept. they are going to spread his ashes with a sort of renewal of vows. That was there anniversary. I know this sounds sort of weird. But they want to celebrate his life and there love. I don't want to fancy but yet in memory of there love. There was a thread on funeral cakes. But this one is just alittle different. I was thinking a simple half sheet cake. Decorated simple not overstated. But done in turquiose accents her dress color. I thought maybe there wedding date on the cake somewhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly new to decorating have completed course 2 and waiting for course 3 but have practiced alittle with fondant and cornelli lace. I thought maybe cornelli might be nice yet simple with a few roses??? Thanks in advance Kay

I think your ideas sound nice. Simple yet pretty - I like the idea of cornelli lace, and I think you said maybe some turquoise flowers? I don't think a "funeral" cake is needed since like you said, this is a celebration of their life and love so I would do something more appropriate to an anniversary.

I think "Funeral" cakes are morose. Why remind the family of the sadness by inscribing With Sincere Sympathy across a cake?

In answer to your request, if this cake is not a surprise gift for the bereaved, then consult with them as to what they would like. For all we know, they would like something that says Happy Anniversary on it.

If it is a surprise gift, then just make a nicely decorated cake, perhaps with the couple's picture nearby.

Yes, double check for what they want if this is not a surprise cake.

Just to add on an idea for the inscription. You could have:

"Happy Anniversary! Thank you (name) for ___ years! "

I think that would be a nice touch. Hope this helps.
