I read some of the previous post about advertising on Craigslist. Most say you get very little response, but these posts were all over a year old. Craigslist seems to be gaining popularity--has anyone seen a difference? I'm just starting out and would like to get my name out. I plan on putting my ad in the events section. There seems to be numerous wedding based ads in that section and I will be selling edible wedding favors. Any thoughts?

Actually that's all I've done so far (post on Craigslist). I've posted in Creative Services and Items for Sale. I'm just starting out as well. I've had something every weekend for the past month and a half. I only started posted about 2 months ago.

I had:

1-Graduation Cake
1- Bridal Shower Cookies
1- Bridal Shower Cake
2- Weddind Tastings (both booked)- medium price range
1- Direct Wedding Cake- Cheap Bride
1- Baby Shower Cake

I think that's it....

I give thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif to Craigslist!

Once my website is up and running I will do some other type of advertisement but until then this does just fine!

Good Luck! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I have found some great things on Craigslist (most recently a complete professional series, of Stress-Freee cake supports!) - but you guys be careful, if you are home based bakers, and are not "legal". You are putting yourself out there, which is asking for trouble!

I totally agree with cakesbyallison; I am a home-based bakery but I am also licensed and completely legal.

I also post on Craigslist. I post all my wedding related services. I get hits every now and then. I think it just depends on how popular the site is in the area.

I'm actually in the planning stages of becoming legal. I know I'm taking a chance. I'll just plead ignorance if I get caught. I'll just follow my SIL's motto:
It's better to seek forgiveness, then to ask for permission--LOL
She was a bit of a troublemaker! I think it really does depend on how large your community is. I think I'll post it for a short period.
