Hi y'all!!
I've got a wedding cake coming up next month (My very first one) and I need some help. I'm going to be stenciling on the sides of it and need information on the best way to do this. Any and all input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lazy_Susan

I'd love the answer to this, too! I just bought some cool stencils at Michael's.

Bump!

Thanks for the info. However, has anyone stenciled with just food coloring? You know... like as if you were just stecilling on a wall or something. If so, how difficult is it? Is there a specific technique that works best?

Thanks,

or can you stencil with pearl / petal dust and just use a stippling brush?

i've seen cakes where people paint on luster dust mixed with vodka or lemon extract onto the cake, you can use a stencil as a guideline and use this mixture.

Hi,

you need to get very thin stencils, brush them lightly with shortening so they stick a little ( practice on a random piece of fondant first ) then you lightly roll your rolling pin over the whole thing...just lightly to remove any air pockets or bubbles.

you can dilute your colors with a little vodka, you can "brush" them on, or with a "make-up" sponge you can "dab" the color on. Let the vodka evaporate a little, then you can move the stencil.

If the stencil doesn't come off, you pressed too hard with the rolling pin and you have too much shortening.

I hope this helps.

can you make "paint" using royal and your gel/paste colors to stencil with? I think this might work nicely, but I don't know this from experience
