I am making 2-12x18 cakes this weekend for family reunion. They will be put side by side to make full sheet. I want to make 2 different kinds, I also want to do something other than just chocolate and yellow cakes. Since I am travelling close to 2 hours to get there I am just going to have to stick with with mostly shortening buttercream, but was wondering if you all have any ideas about what I can fill with as well. I am just so overwhelmed by the decorations that I already started working on (a family tree with each leave with a persons name, 107 names!!!) I am praying I can get it all done. Thanks in advance for your help
Strawberry with vanilla or strawberry preserves
Lemon w/ lemon curd or strawberry preserves
Hazelnut with nutella filling
chocolate with peanut butter buttercream
coconut with citrus filling (lemon or lime curd or maybe mango?)
banana with chocolate filling
vanilla bean cake with vanilla buttercream
almond with marzipan or cherry filling
strawberry with white chocolate buttercream
[size=18]Strawberry or Raspberry Preserves mixed with a packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid is a tasty filling. Believe it or not - the quickest and eaisest filling ever. Sometimes I melt marizpan and fold it into the jam mixture. Happy Baking! ![]()
