One of my kids' favorite things to take in to school is rice krispie treats. We cut them into shapes with cookie cutters, and sometimes drizzle melted chocolate on them, with sprinkles or not, depending on the kid and the occasion.
You can use white chocolate to decorate and it's not quite so messy to eat.

I, too was the creative mom for treats for my kids. I'm very proud of that too since even my daughter who is 27 still has her friends remark about the treats I used to bring in!
Family Fun magazine is wonderful! My kids are 27 down through 11 and I still subscribe to it!
Aside from treats, one year I even made 3 different colors of play doh, bagged them up so each kid got 3 different colors.
One of my biggest mistakes was a double cookie that I piped a ton of blue frosting inside and then used malt balls for eyes, etc. to look like cookie monster. I think every kid was sick that night from all the frosting!
I made candy bars for my son's class. Bought the candy bar molds, made the bar and printed labels on my computer with something like Happy Sixth Birthday to Richie....can't remember, my baby is now in college. Just used a glue stick to seal label on the backside and used clear cello for to wrap the bar first. I also made oreo suckers. Put them on a paper plate and microwave for 5-10 seconds and then insert sucker stick. Dip in chocolate and you can buy the candy apliques at your local cake/candy supply store to press on the melting chocolate. Put in cello bags and tie with ribbon. You can also make rice crispie suckers the same way.
