I am preparing to make my Wilton Course 3 final cake and I have been trying to think of something different to do with it as I have been just following the book's suggestions thus far. I would like to do the entire thing in black and white, but I don't want a mass of black roses on there since there's supposed to be 20 of them. What I really want is white roses tipped with black.

I am picturing something similar to these buttercream roses on this cake by GrannyBethy: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_48789.html

I know how that is achieved with buttercream but how do I do it with fondant roses? I assume you have to paint it on? What would be the best thing to use for that? Any other ideas or suggestions?

If it's a bad idea or just won't work please tell me that also! icon_wink.gif

Brush the edges with edible decorator's chalk.

You could have marlbed roses - just mix black and white together - not so much you get grey.

To get that look with fondant roses, you can brush the edges of the petals with petal dust.
