I am doing my first wedding cake this weekend. It is 3 tiers in white buttercream with pink roses and I may do some dots so it isn't so plain. My question is, should I use Viva paper towels or a paper towel with little impressions? Thanks

Can someone explain to me this Viva paper towel thing. Wouldn't it leave little marks on the cake birthday.gif

Thanks

viva is such a soft cloth and has no design that it will leave the cake looking smooth but it still has alittle bit of ummmm like bumps but they are nothing like what a cheap paper towel would leave.
The heat of your hand helps smooth the icing also.

I tried the Viva and it worked ok. I tried the white printer paper thing and was very impressed with the results! I'm using the white paper from now on. Thanks to whomever it was that suggested that. Sorry I can't remember who it was here at CC.

yeah, that it what I was thinking, just wanted some advice
the printed ones may be too much for a simple cake

I read on another thread that someone used a paper towel with a quilted design and it transfered onto the frosting. Kind of like an impression mat only more subtle. So if you wanted a textured look, go for it. If you want smooth...Viva.

Now my question is...is there a difference between printer paper and parchment? As far as smoothness goes that is? icon_confused.gif

I don't know as far as smoothness goes; but there is a huge difference in the price! Printer paper being way cheaper to use and throw away without a second thought.

I actually use parchment paper. It works better than the paper towels for me.
