Help! Cake Height Question....

what is the best height for a round cake? I have only made 2 cakes and they were both 2 layers...each cake was made from 1 cake mix ...should i be making them heigher? or is 2 layers ok? i just want to be sure that i am making the best that i can and want to be sure that i am not shorting anyone....thanks yall!! ~Tiff

Well it all kind of depends on what size pans you're using. I know I learned after many a flat cake that an 8" round takes 3.5 cups of batter for each pan and my mix (at the time) was only producing 4-5 cups batter total. I switched to DH and that fills them both about right. I guess it all depends on what your doing with it too. If it's going to have fondant of any kind, the taller ones look better IMHO.

thanks!! i dont think that i have been putting enough batter in my pans..guess its time to start measuring and not eyeballing it.
