50% Off Coupon: Tackle Box Vs Deluxe Tip Set
Decorating By LukeRubyJoy Updated 30 Aug 2006 , 4:32pm by Katskakes
AC Moore has a 50% off coupon for this week.
(I asked my Mom to cut it out of the paper, so if she remembers then I'll have 2, problem solved).
But, if you could only get one of these, which would you get? I only have 2 tips and 1 little 8" bag.....I can't really tell what all else is in the red-lid ($120) tackle box. The deluxe set of tips ($40??) I think has something like 35? tips in it??
Please any input would be helpful. Thanks for all the help!
I would get the deluxe set of tips. It gives you all those tips plus I have found that as my collection grows I can stack 3 tips of the same kind on top of each other and still close the lid no problem. For instance I have 3 of #16 and they all stack perfect in there. I keep my tips in order and never have problems finding them or them getting lost/bent.
As for the tackle box- I went to Walmart in the fishing section and bought one that suits my needs great! Lots of little compartments and easy to find things in it.
Ok, here's a seperate question then, do you purchase the "last forever" bags or do you get the 100 disposables? I realize I need to have more than one bag going at a time, some with the same tip, some with other tips.....so....which is better, disposable or washable??
I am SUCH an NEWBIE!!! ![]()
I have both. If I am feeling lazy or have alot of colors going on I use the disposables. If just a few colors I use the featherweight.
Don't forget about parchment bags. I use those for small amounts of icing or something quick.
can you cut parchment bags from parchment paper rolls, or do they have to have a 'specific' angle to the triangle?
You could cut them yourself but I think the triangles are much cheeper
I buy the 100 disposables and parchment triangles. I never buy the vinyl bags. It takes to much time to clean those. The parchment triangles are great for small bags of icing.
I think I would just do the math, you get a few disposable bags (maybe 25) in the blue lid "tackle box" (which i think is $59 reg price)? You also get a spatula (although i prefer my pampered chef one) a little wilton book, some small sized colors, seems like a few other things...cant remember. I would just look at what you get in that set do the math (if you think you would use all those items)...I dont know how many more tips are in the deluxe set than that middle set though.
When I started, I had NOTHING! I didn't even have a pan
I had only made pound cakes before, and my 9x13's were used for lasagne and brownies and stuff, not cakes! Anywho, I used a 50% for the 101 piece professional set (blue box). There are only 2, maybe 3 things that came in that box that I've never used. You get a lot of usefull stuff at a great price! I'd start with the 101 piece kit, then later add the tip set. You even get bags, flavors, colors, etc in the kit. Just my opinion, of course, I have NO doubt that you'll be happy with either purchase!
Happy shopping!
MsTonyasCakes: Is the 101 piece the middle set? It cost about $80?? I likewise mostly used my pyrex 9x13 for everything. I still don't have a 9x13 cake pan. I have purchased some pans (all with coupons....1 at a time, or 1 from 3 different stores with 3 coupons). My first what I would consider big purchase was the tilting turntable (also with 40% coupon, birthday gift certificate, I only paid 12$$ myself). I am so not good at frosting around corners, and I really wanted this turntable to raise my work closer to eye level without having to bend over all the time. I find that my plate was slipping off though...I guess I need to get that no slip stuff.
I really appreciate all your input into good starting things. Like I also think I need to get a few more of the common tips....like 2 #2, and 2 #3 and 2 or 3 #1....it was a pain to have to wash my only tip between colors....and not too functional either.
Thanks for all your responses...keep them coming...since I finally have a little cash ![]()
the 101 piece set is the "mac daddy", it's around $120 I think. Did you know you can also sign up for a weekly email from ACMoore that has the ad and the coupon. I usually print at least 4 or 5 when it's 50%. Anyway, I have made it a point to have at least 3 of each tip. I especially use 2, 3, 5, 10, 14, 16,18. Some of these will come in a double pack and will save a few pennys. BTW, I also use the disposable bags. Another great buy with the 50% coupon, get the box of 100!
About the bags, I tried the featherweight bags. Didn't like them. You can't put them in the dishwasher. At least I couldn't. The lining on the inside of the bag turned to powder and the bags were ruined. So if I'm gonna have to wash my bags by hand, I'd rather just use the diposable bgs that I can just throw away. I've never been able to make the parchment bags work for me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can fold them just fine, but when I try to pipe with them, the frosting comes out around the tip.
i would rather get the 101 pieces box, i believe is the one w/the dark blue top. w/the 50% off coupon, it should be somewhere around $50-$60 at ACmoore. They have it cheaper than michaels. btw: you should be able to use that coupon at michaels too.
I usually buy the disposable bags, i rather use and ditch then to have to wash them. it has a few colors and tips and other useful things as someone mentioned. Sometimes Michaels and ACmoore puts the cake pans on sale for holidays. so keep an eye out for that too. they won't accept a coupon if item is on sale. but i have gotten cake pans at 30-50% off on sale. 50% coupons usually come out for holidays, so you'll have a chance to purchase other things in the next few months.
