Rock N Roll 1St Birthday Theme
Decorating By MommyEdzards Updated 1 Sep 2006 , 6:00pm by oceanspitfire
I have a request for a rock n roll first birthday themed cake. She sent me an email with some pictures she found on the web... a couple of guitars and this drum set ( which she liked the best) from The Cake Store. I think I can pull it off, but what would you charge for this? I don't want to charge too much, but look at this cake.... it doesn't look easy!
Anyone have any other suggestions too? The party is nt until Dec! (First baby
) So we are just brainstorming right now.
Thanks!
Lisa
I personally would break it down into the individual sized cakes............charge x amount for a decorated 6" ...x amount for the decorated 8" and so on and then throw in another 5 -10 bucks for the extra molded fondant pieces! That way if she wants to lower the price or if she's willing to pay more she can adjust the price herself depending on how many drums she wants in the presentation.
bump..... anyone else? What would you charge?
How bout a cd shaped cake...Oh,maybe not tho I could think of alot of things to write on the cd but not for a first b-day...This should be interresting to see.I think the child would enjoy the drums!Thant would be nice.guess I wasn't much help, but you do have me thinkin!!!
How about one drum with a 'child' made out of the 3d bear pan sitting there banging on it with fondant covered chopsticks for the drumsticks or wooden spoons? Most kids bang on pots and pans with wooden spoons when they are that age.
That would reduce a lot of the work for the added drum pieces, and actually 'show' the child too?
Does that make sense?
Well, I really wouldnt know what to charge for something like that, but I think that a cute idea for a rock n roll themed cake would be to like someone mentioned to make a cd shaped cake and make the top a cd and have it say something like happy b-day ______ but then around the outsides you could make guitars and drum sets out of fondant and put them around the sides. Or you could even make that top a record.
I dont know if this is what you were looking for but theres an idea.

I agree with KHalstead...you definately need to give her a price per cake and put the ball in her court on quantity. That sure looks like a lot of cake...is it going to be a huge bash? (Oh yeah...and a lot of work!)
I have to say that I am a bit partial to the idea of a guitar. I just did one recently and it was soooo much fun. I think the dad loved it more than the kid!!!
Good luck whatever you decide!!!
i think she likes the drums best ( and me too). I sent her an email telling her that I loved the cake, but that it could get pricey. I let her know that the drum cake sells for $125 american dollars ( UK website) and that i would not charge that much, but it is a huge detailed cake. I suggested taking out a drum and icing in buttercream and doing fondant accents.
I will definately charge by each round. The other ideas are great too! We will see
i'll post pics in Dec
and I will keep you updated!
Thanks so much everyone!
For me that I think that would take a whole box of fondant.. And maybe them some that is 5 bucks.. then your buttercream icing and maybe 5 cake mixes (box).. Plus your board, foil and box. that would put me at about 14 to 17 dollars to make.. Everyone here says times your cost by three and you'll get the price of what you SHOULD charge.. So anywhere between 45 - 55 would be my price..
I'm still trying to wrap my head around making a rock and roll theme party for a 1 year old
I'm thinkin the theme is probably more for the parents? LOL
I dont know anything about what to charge because well I am a long long way off from charging for cakes lol, hwever I would concur that you should find more details about how many people she's feeding
She knows what she wants obviously lol- I like the bear banging the drum idea- but that's just me thinkin a 1 yr old would more be suited to that than just some drums. Ah well when someone asks me to do a rock n roll theme for a 1 yr old, I'll pursue that then I guess eh? LOL
Gee that's a long way off to plan a birthday party! (well ok I admit not really- I've been putting bugs into all the kids ears about what kinds of theme for next year already a couple days after this year's birthdays LOL)
At the sushi bar I work at we have a few different platters available for parties/large events. Different number of pieces per platter and different prices (like small, medium, large, extra large) and I know how many they feed. Would it be possible to work out your per servings for different sizes of drums - say like 3- and have esetimates on number of servings per cake, and then a price worked out for additional fondant stuff. And then give her those choices. Let her know how many each feed and let her decide. Just a thought.
