My mother gave me some old separator plates and columns and various other things that have yellowed with age. Is there any way to safely remove this yellowing? Or can you spray paint any of the pieces that do not touch the cake? Has anyone else tried this? Thanks for all of your help. I love this site!!!!!!!!!

It depends on how bad they are. If it's minor yellowing, you may be able to bleach them, sometimes letting them set in the sun helps a little. But if it's really bad, there's not a lot you can do. Paint never looks quite right because they are always going to be next to some white plastic plates that are different. I had lots of them my grandmother gave me when I first started in business, and as far as she is concerned, I'm still using them today! Really, I wasted quite a bit of time on them and threw them and out bought new. I lump it in with the cost of doing business. Plastic yellows from the inside out, so it's not like a stain you can scrub off.
Just my experience! Good luck! -Lori

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking of doing the same as you. Although, I have covered them with tulle and garland before. I was afraid I could not do anything with them..........
