I'm finishing up my Wilton 3 and just don't want to stop. I have done all my classes back to back. My instructer is doing a More Flowers class, but are there any more Wilton classes? I asked about a wondermold doll class and she said if I could come up with a class she would teach it long as it is Wilton.

I know 4 is coming next year, but I can't wait. My instructor showed me the flowers and I'm excited about the Fantasy Flower. The calla lilly didn't rock my boat, but the carnation was cool. Does anyone know any more about the content of 4 and what flowers will be taught?

I just enrolled my 6 year old daughter in a kids class. The use rice krispy treats and fondant. Some of these little ones would give Collette a run for her money. There imaginations are so great!

You could check around your area for classes that are not Wilton. I took all the Wilton classes then have taken several from a local cake supply store. I found that there is more than one way to do some things. I like the Wilton way better for some things and the other way better on some. Some of the classes I have taken are: Smooth a cake, Intermediate cake decorating, cookie demo, cookie class, whimsical cake and am signed up for figure piping and a cupcake class in September.

The local bake shop owner near me just won Wiltons International Instructor of the year and is going to Chicago for some classes. Maybe she will offer some new stuff. Right now all her classes are the Wilton 1, 2, and 3, though she does offer private lessons. I'm thinking I might retake 2 from her, since I'm not real good with those flowers. I took my classes from Michaels. My instructor was great, I just wasn't a great learner.

I was told at our Wilton instructor at work that they are working on a gum paste class. I think that will be the 4th class. I can't wait.

Oh I do that for hours on end. I am a neglectful mother. I get home from work at 1am, kiss my daughter in bed and hop online. She goes to school and 2 seconds later I'm online. My house is a mess, my kitchen is filled with buttercream and all I dream about is cakes. SHAME! icon_redface.gif

I did hear that wilton is crating a course 4 class. Course 4 will be both fondant and gumpaste. I can't wait to learn gumpaste. And practice more with fondant. But it is soooooooo far away. I live in a small town, the closest classes to me are probably about 20-25 min. away if I want to learn more decorating. Too much drivnig for me after a long day at work. =*(

Depending on what store you are doing it, Wilton offers some project classes. These are usually one or two day classes that cover things that aren't in the courses and such. We do have to have 6 students to teach these, but if you know some people that would do it you can always ask the instructor about scheduling one.

A clarifacation... Yes Wilton is working on a class for gumpaste. I was told in the Instructor Meeting is not going to be Course 4. Instead it is a 4 week project course called Advance Fondant and Intro to Gumpaste. It is suppose to be ready in Feb of 2007. We do not know what will be in the class though. We were told the things they should us at the meeting may or may not be covered.

You should look around because I took the Wilton gumpaste flowers class right after course 3 at my local Michael's. Some of the Wilton instructors are allowed to teach it. We covered all of the flowers that are in the gumpaste flowers kit, but my teacher showed us better ways to make them. It was a lot of fun and a great starting point for gumpaste flowers.

The new Fondant and Gumpaste Kits were shipped to all Michaels instructors. I got mine on Friday. The cally lilly did not make it in the course, everything else they taught us as the instrutors seminar made it in the book. The book and kit are GREAT!!! I would HIGHLY reccomend you go to your local Michael's and sign up. Classes start Feb.
(This is NOT called Course4- please make sure you ask for the class by the correct name - or they may not know what you are talking about, when you go to sign up).

I have also taken all of the wilton classes at my local michaels. But I also found a cake supply store that also has classes. I have already taken the beginning and intermediate cake classes and I am looking forward to the other classes they have like a topsy turvy class, stacked and pillared, airbrushing, gumpaste, fondant and the flowers class. The methods that they teach are different from the wilton method and I have found that there are some things that I liked in those classes that I could live without wiltons method. Give it a try...its worth it!!!

You are absolutley correct- it is not a "C4" ... it's just an additonal Wilton class...

I'm thinking I might just hold off on this class for a few months. I'm not sure the instucters have a good grip on the material yet. From my understanding they were introduced the flowers in the meeting and at that time no real format was introduced. I for one learn by trial and error and don't want to take the class from someone who has only handled the material once or twice. My local cake shop charges $35 for the Wilton classes.

If that is the case, you need a new instructor icon_wink.gif Wilton has done everything to make sure that the instructors know what they are doing when they teach this. IF you have one that "doesn't have a grip" then they are not doing their part of the job. Wilton has provided hands on training at the seminar, provided DVD's with the techniques in them, AND their teaching manuals. There is really no excuse for an instructor to not know what they are teaching. (IMO)
