Help, Oven Broke, Fondant Class Soon, How Do I Make A Dummy

cake. I need an 8x8x3 square cake frosted with buttercream to take to class to learn how to cover it in fondant. I've read some of the topics and they talk about purchasing cake dummies. I had hoped I could just use styrofoam. If I can, can I frost it with buttercream just as it comes from the store? or should I coat it with something first....How do I give it some weight so it won't move around so much. I'm sure this info is out there in all the expertise you guys have, so I really appreciate your help on this.
yes you can ice it with buttercream. I would suggest sanding the edges a bit so they are slightly rounded before you ice so your fondant doesnt tear.
Once the BC and fondant are on it will have enough weight to it to decorate. I sometimes place dummies on a board with a nail through it to hold them down while frosting. HTH! ![]()
Thanks so much for the quick responses...I'll be heading out to get the styrofoam shortly....didn't think about rounding the corners, but that is a great tip. I'm sure it would tear the fondant, and that's all I need to have happen when I'm trying to learn...there's enough to make mistakes on of my own without adding cake malfunction to the list. ![]()
for this class just use the back of your cake pan. dont even put buttercream on it, if you want it to stick spread a litlle piping get around the bottom edge. after class you can peel off the icing roll it up and use it as practice fondant, any time you want to make some thing that you wont use on a cake use this fondant.

The last two posts are both great ideas....I kind of like the rice krispies one, but that is because I'm addicted to them. But the pan is definitely a great idea that doesn't take much effort. I may just do that. Many thanks for the help
