I looked at the Wilton 2008 in the store the other day and I was not impressed at all. So I won't be buying it this year. Did anyone else feel the same??

I have to agree with sunflowerfreak. We bought it the day it became available and we were also not impressed with it.

Just posted in another thread about this, yep. Not impressed, thought that they were selling more stuff than giving good ideas etc. I did like a few things they showed, but when I got to the end of the pictures I'm like "That's it?". I think they should lower the price of the book since most of it is advertising the stuff they want to sell!

Oh my gosh! I thought I was gong to be the only one and I was so embarrassed! icon_redface.gif I did not want to admit it because everyone was so excited about it. The only thing in the entire book that made me saw WOW was the paisley cake with the black piping!!!

I agree. I flipped through the book at Michaels and thought, there is no way I am buying this! Their cakes are all unimpressive and silly looking! And like everyone else has said it is mostly advertising and very little ideas. Hopefully they step it up for next year and give us some nicer looking cakes.

Me Too!!!! The only other one that stood out was the watermelon cake, that was pretty cool. Everything else seemed the same as in previous years except the castle stuff which IMHO was 'overdone' in their book.

Yah, and dummy me got two of them! I think what pissed me off the most is the fact that you have to buy the pattern book to get any of the directions! Then what the hell did I buy this thing for?!
They were out of them near me so I had to order it at Globalsugarart. I didnt get to see what was inside. And your right, their trying to sell more than give ideas. Ohwell!

I am so glad to see honest opinions!! It is not in any store near me, yet and I was thinking about ordering it "blind" off of ebay. Now I will happily wait until it arrives in a store and then flip through...thanks!
I was so excited when I saw it advertised, but my money can be more wisely spent on old issues if need be!

Is it that we are not impressed by the yearbook b/c Wilton is not putting enough in, or have we all gotten used to the high level of cakes here on CC that we hope that the yearbook would shoecase the same talent as we see here?

That's what I think it is, we're so used to seeing hundrends of wonderful cake ideas everyday that a few in a book isn't enough to excite us. Comparing it to the old books (late 70's and 80's) it has about the same number of new ideas, even my oldest are half products and they've always pushed their stuff.

For what it was I thought the new book was good. THere was a cute crane made from the 3d train and the Halloween ideas were pretty good, my oldest liked the brooms.

I was on the Wilton discussion boards, and not too many folks are impressed with the new yearbook (stupid me spilled coffee all over my new book). Most folks are upset they are pushing the castle cakes so much......but in past books they have done something similar, like the bears or doll cakes. I also agree that they should drop some of the ads, but then again alot of those things are not available in retail stores and if you really need them, it is a place to order them. Count me in as one of those not very impressed persons this year. thumbsdown.gif

I've gotten them since I started and I keep them as collectables, since I really don't do Wilton Style cakes anyway.

I think it is a person choice. I like the year book myself. Do I love every cake in it, no, but I never do, and don't expect to. There are always cakes in the yearbook that I don't like and will never do, but then agian we all have different likes and dislikes so what I don't like someone else might.

There are several cakes that I love in the year book. And there are some that I like and will probably use parts of them for other cakes. And there are some they could have left out for me. But oh well. I'm happy with it and glad I bought it.
