Hot Hot Weather - Smbc And Fondant???
Decorating By Steffen74 Updated 8 Jul 2007 , 2:33pm by Steffen74
I've got a wedding cake for a friend on the 28th of July in hot (hot!) and humid Kansas City, MO. The bride wants SMBC, and the cake will be covered in fondant. Will the whole thing melt before my eyes? Any advice?
I'm sure this question has been asked a few times already, so if anyone wants to point me to the threads out there on it, that would be great too!
I live in Caracas, very warm caribean weather, an I can tell you that a cake covered in fondant holds the hot weather well, if is humid keep in AC for as long as you can.
My daisy raffia wedding from the beginning of June was made with SMBC and covered in fondant...for an outdoor wedding and it was soooo humid and hot here in Ottawa at that time.
You can see it in my cake fridge...I kept it in the fridge (gumpaste flowers and all) and it was absolutely fine...
I took it at the last possible time, carried it stacked as you can see...
It was so humid here that my cake fridge was dripping water...thus the tea-towel on the top shelf..

I'll be fine..the bride said it was very yummy and nothing happened. and it will stay cool for quite a few hours..take it immediately from the fridge to the a/c car...(making sure your vehicle is very cool inside)
If you are afraid about the topper..just add that at the reception..in my case it was fine..
