It has to do with the potential for contamination from listeria, a bacteria. It can have very serious complications to the pregnancy and fetus. Here is some more info:

dh called my the food nazi when I was pregnant because I was so careful about what I ate-no deli meat, diet drinks, only certain kinds of fish(certain kinds of salmon are great), no artificial sweetners. I even counted my protein grams everyday to make sure I was getting enough for both of us! I believe that good nutrition while I was pregnant and breastfeeding made such a huge difference for my son. He was delivered at 32 weeks and did really well. He was strong, weighed 4lbs3oz and did really well for a preemie!

So don't worry mommies-to-be just read up on good mommy/baby nutrition and have wonderful pregnancies!!!!!

Since I love urban legends I had to go poking around about the aspartame/formaldehyde thing. It's not that it converts at 98 degrees but aspartame is broken down into methanol and absored then the methanol is broken down into formaldehyde. Yikes. But oh don't worry they say it's such a small amount! Small amount is too much for me!!!

Here's what I found:

I try to stay away from frankenfoods...

There was an article in Women's World mag a few months ago about women and Splenda. Don't remember all the details, but the woman who authored the article had multiple side-effects from ingesting it.

Personally, I think Splenda is about as natural as high fructose corn syrup.

Just my $0.02
