Hey,
I just got a whole bunch of tips from someone who is not decorating anymore. WOO HOO! Well, I don't know when the last time she used them, but alot of the tips are kinda funky!! It looks like lime has crusted on the inside of the tips. I guess its lime, I really have no idea. I can only assume that they weren't cleaned well and have sat unused for a long time. Just hot soapy water and a brush is not getting them clean. I tried breaking off a piece of Brillo and sticking it in there with a stick and moving it around - what a pain that was!!! It worked a little. I don't think something like CLR is safe for food utensils, so... Does any one have any suggestions on how to get these tips clean?

CLR might work and as long as you clean it thorougly afterwards, you should be fine. Just boil a small pot of water and stick the tips in there for a bit after you're done.

I just went through my mom's old tips and they were pretty nasty as well. I used Vim kitchen cleaner something that is supposed to tackle lots of mess like that and it worked like a charm.

Thanks - I'll have to give that a try.

I just looked under my cabinet and found some Lime Away and it said it could be used on cookware, tea kettles, etc. So I tried it on 1 tip, soaked it with some hot water for a few minutes and it worked like a charm.

I guess I should have looked before asking, oh well - maybe this will help someone else out there!
