Has anyone ever transported a display cake to an ICES Convention via airplane? If so how do you do it, just bring it with your carry-on luggage or what? This will be my 1st ICES to attend in Omaha (trip was inspired by thoughts I'd get to see my brother & family whom I've seen only twice in 42 years) and I thought about bringing one but didn't know how much trouble it would be.
Thanks to a wonderfully "sweet" group of friends, I LOVE this site!! icon_razz.gif

You can bring a cake as carry on to the plane as long as it can fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. They will let it go under the xray machine in security at the airport icon_smile.gif

I carried a dummy cake on a plan when I went to the Vegas ICES convention. That was before 9-11 so the rules may have been a little more relaxed. I would be carefully placing anything inside the dummy that might concearn the screeners. I had thought of using toothpicks to stick my two layers together then thought that might not look so good when they x-rayed it.

You can also call the airline you are using and ask them about this, you can also get deminsions so you know how much space you will have to put your cake.

Be ready for strange looks. I loved going through the xray, cause I saw them back it up and look at it again to see what it was. And of course everyone asks is that cake and can we have some.
