It is now 90 degrees outside and our A/C in the apt is out...We told them on the 3rd that it went out...And all they did was recharge it on the 5th...making my DF and i to be in hotels (which several ppl have told us the apt should reimburse us for)...Today again A/C went out and they just recharged it...Now it went out again...Someone told us that if we put wet towels over the vents it will blow cold air...It's not working and we can't afford to go to yet another hotel...Any idea how we can cool this place down...I've already had heat exhaustion 2x this week...

Do you have fans that you can use? I grew up with no air here in the south. We would put the box or square shaped fans backward in the windows. Like they were blowing outside. This would pull the heat out of the house/apartment. We would also try to have one blowing in the room on swivel. I would contact the owners of the apartment or your local housing authority. My oldest daughter almost died from an asthma attack because the air went out in our apartment. I rushed her to the fire departmentaround the corner. Please don't hesitate to get ugly with who ever is n charge. I hope you cool off.

Tell your landlord that you will find someone to repair it and deduct the charge from next months rent if they don't repair it as well as repay you for the hotel cost. Can the landlord at least have a ceiling fan installed asap? Try putting a dampened washcloth in the freezer and when nearly frozen, place on the back of you neck to help with heat exhaustion. Frozen gel packs also work wrapped in a damp towel.

We had some 100+ days here last year and baking was horrible as we don't have an A/C. We made a "swamp cooler" by putting a bin of ice in front of a fan. You could probably put ice in front of your A/C vent too if it's not working. It's not as good as the A/C but it down help cool it down. Another thing we did was fill a ziploc sandwich bag with ice and put it on our heads. We held it on with our hairnets but I bet you could somehow clip it on with bobby pins or barrettes or something...

One thing my bf does is turn on the cold water in the shower and open the bathroom door. It cools things down a bit, but not like an air conditioner.

Pull out your lease and read it carefully! If a part of it says that the LL is responsible for the repairs of the AC start quoting your lease i.e. on page ? my lease with you says __________________. You have to be strong with them and threaten if you have to to get an attorney involved and not only would the LL be responsible for repairs but he would also be responsible for legal fees, hotel costs and possible medical costs. This is a health issue!!!! Just read your lease carefully and make sure you have the defense you need before you say anything. By signing it you may have released the LL of any responsibility and may have agreed not to sue him for anything. Good luck!

ty all...we did get out A/C fixed yesterday...they called the emergency repair man...
there's a tenant/LL clause (i guess that's what u call it)...that says they have to maintain the A/C if it came w/the apt...which in this case it did (it's refrigerated)...
my DF will be talking to the management today...since i'm hot tempered...i'm gonna stay home so i don't get to pissy...haha...we shall see what happens...
