I only did one small cake, for my best friends who are twin sisters. The party's still going on, though, in my living room. I'm taking 5 minutes to enjoy a wee bit of quiet. icon_razz.gif I dont' think we've ever hosted this many people before, but everything went well, and the cake, while small, was french vanilla with cream cheese buttercream enhanced with pumpkin pie spice. Yum!

two wedding cakes, three b-day cakes, 200 mini fruit tarts, one 29th annaversary cake, a batch of pear scones, a batch of carrott apple muffins, and a fresh batch of creme anglaise.
To top it all off a major rain/hail storm and a broken camera icon_cry.gif ...
now I am enjoying a lovely beverage and one of my most favorite of guilty pleasures... CC's forums icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats on all of your hard work. Now go rest. No cakes for me. I was leaving my house @ 6:00 this morning to meet my MIL at the Florida Welcome Center to get my two youngest girls. Six hours there & six hours back. icon_cry.gif I am done with Florida for awhile as soon as my oldest daughter comes home. I'm not hating on Florida. I married a Florida boy. thumbs_up.gif

I had two weddings. They were both afternoon. The first one at 4pm i was a nervous wreck about. I work with the girl and know how stressed she was about getting married. And one of the other girls i work with had to make the parting comment about not dropping the cake. And of course i had to worry about that all day and the bumpy trip to the venue.

Now the second cake was a butter cream cake for an outside reception. 80 degrees today, but it was for the evening. When i was setting up the cake, one of the older women there asked if the cake will melt. Well, YES. Of course the cake can melt it is covered with mostly butter after all. Well, i set up at 6pm and the reception was to start at 6:30 so i figured they should be okay. The biggest thing about this cake was they were barbecuing right next to where they set up the cake table, and the smoke was drifting that way. I sure do hope the cake was okay, and at least it would keep the bugs off of it.

Whew! I'm glad that it's over, too. I had 4 bd cakes, 12 dozen wedding cookie favors and a wedding cake that went with the cookie favors. The wedding cake turned out really well. Except for the fact that it had to be set up in the kitchen of the historic home where the "garden" wedding was to take place. With it being in the upper 90s, I didn't want to chance the butter cream with so much NC heat and humidity. The bride was fine with the last-minute change, so everything was fine. Nothing tomorrow. I don't do Sundays. Sundays are for church and family. Monday...well, it's time to start all over.

Get some rest everyone!!! I'm cuddling up to my hubby to watch the Daytona 500...if I can stay awake now that Tony Stewart is out...on lap 15! Ugh!!!

I had 1 cake, that's it. Trying to relax today 'cause I have a hectic week next week and I have a jammed pack Aug and Sept. Not often I get to relax. Going to catch up on updating the site...it's long overdue. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I WAS supposed to do 2 baby cakes, but I kanked it at last minute because the customer was not so nice and she expected me to bow at her feet so I nicely told her no. So I had a free cake weekend. I spend time with my kiddos and when cake shopping at the flea markets icon_smile.gif Enjoyed looking at everyone else work though!

I had 3. Two of them had more people than planned. Did anyone else notice this trend?

One was cake and punch only, with 200 choc covered strawberries. (the cake with red roses with red ribbon - just posted pic). This one went very well. THe couple chartered a bus and was taking the entire wedding party to Southern Indiana to the casinos! When I turned on my punch fountain, 2 of the spigots were turned outwards and I sprayed punch all over the table! It was like I turned two hoses on! Luckily, I had 2 extra (red) tablerunners with me and was able to cover it up.

2nd one was only 10 minutes down the road and I already had a crew on site setting that one up. Cake and buffet. I thought the wedding was at 5:30 and dinner at 6:00. I walk out of the kitchen and the room is half filled with guests at 5:10!!!! We had just put the pasta on to cook, so I'm stressing but the pasta gets cooked and we have everything ready to go at 5:30. (in pics .... basketweave with purple flowers)

3rd one I dispatched a crew out at 3:30. Buffet only. They ordered food for 125. My supv calls me and says they have 133 guests chairs plus 12 at the head table ... and it's a full house! She told me the cake person set the cake up on the wrong table and the wedding coordinator asked my crew if they could move it! It was a cake with a fountain. They of course said "no way!" (Good call! We do NOT move other people's cakes!).

Another thing I noticed was the unusually high number of police cars parked in hidden places and patroling the streets. My thoughts? That they know this is THE wedding day of the year and are anticipating (1) weddings have alcohol and (2) people are in a party mood.

The only other thing that added to my stress level was I bought a new food warmer to take to the (2nd) wedding location since we were dispatching all events from this kitchen (we could cook on site so we took advantage of it!). We moved the warmer into the kitchen and the plug didn't fit their outlets! Hubby had to go to two places to find an adapter! I spent $1600 for this thing JUST to use today and if I couldn't plug it in, I was going to be really ticked! icon_mad.gif But hubby came thru for me and all went well!!

I was suppose to have a wedding cake for today. 8-8in cakes for centerpieces. The bride called Friday evening around 5:00 and said her fiance had a blood clot in his lung and had to go to the hospital, so the wedding will be postponed. I had them already filled and crumb frosted, so we decided to freeze them until they could reschedule. They were to all have different kinds of fresh fruit on top, so I have to come up with some ways to use the fruit. I felt so bad for them. Please keep them in your prayers. Thanks.

I only had one cake today, but it was my first wedding cake. Went over very well, but I found myself running around all day trying to help the wedding planner (someone from church) get things together! I also found out that I STINK at cutting a wedding cake. (At least the cake that I made ~ check out the dress cake in my photos!) There was cake everywhere, and nobody got an exact 2x2x1 slice. But the different flavors were a hit, as well as the dress cake.

Had a good laugh at the reception, too. Someone came up to me (about 6 pm) and asked me if I could make a cake for the next day after church... for 150 people!!!! HA!!!! I politely told them they needed to try Wal-Mart...

I only had two cakes this weekend. One was Wizard of Oz themed cake for a lady's 55th birthday and the other was a 3 tier square wedding cake. All in all it was relaxing and now I get to kick back after a couple months of workin like a dog on cakes. So far I don't have another one until August 4th

IndyDebi...WOW!! icon_surprised.gif You are outstanding! Here I am patting my self on the back and your day with all it's compelxities just blew my mind! You rock!

Momg...that is so sad, I am very sorry to hear about that, I hope all turns out well for those 2. No worries on the fruit, you have so many options, scones, muffins, tarts w/ pastry cream & apricot glaze, or make a fruit compound and freeze for later use thumbs_up.gif .

Ok, I was feeling like a total poo until I read this thread!! You guys really cheered me up! I thought, on the busiest wedding day of the century, I had to be the only one here that didn't have a booking! I felt like a total drip. Knowing that I'm not the only one makes me feel so much better! I did a bday cake (Raggedy Ann and Andy in my pix) but no weddings. Oh well! I had a family cook out instead, and as soon as it gets dark we're going to go blow up the yard with fire works! Yay!!

I only had one wedding cake and I almost was about to leave the bride high and dry and not deliver her a cake. I almost wish I did. She ordered the cake a YEAR ago and only paid me 3 days ago! She's been kinda jerky to boot. Then when I went to go pickup the cake stand she had taken it!!!!!! a wasted trip across town icon_sad.gif So I called her and she said NOTHING about the cake so I asked her if she liked the cake and she said it was "good" and that the cake topper looked nice on top of the cake........ ouch. I really liked the cake, I thought it came out really nice (square cake in my gallery). She had gotten a steal of a price on it so I am extra mad! Oh well.

alicegop-- that cake is wonderful! I am so sorry she was such a poop! I'm sorry, but if she hadn't paid me by three days before the wedding, she'd be serving twinkies. That's just the limit, especially when she booked a YEAR ago! It's not like she didn't have time to save up for it!

I only had 2 weddings today. A few birthday cakes, but they were pretty basic. Both wedding cakes were really funky designs (Square cake with diamonds in purple, black and pink and the round with milti colored strips, diamonds and dots in my gallery). The round one actually turned out cuter than I thought it would and it matched the room, but the black, purple and pink one just about kicked my a**. I spent about 5 1/2 hours on those 3 layers alone. She insisted that she didn't want a base layer of fondant with diamonds on top, it all had to be one layer, so I had to cut each piece and jigsaw puzzle them together to cover the 6"x6" and the 12"x12". Thank god it was fairly small, I would have killed myself if it would have taken any longer. When I delivered the MOB was at the hall 15 minutes before they were supposed to be taking pictures at the church, no dress, no makeup! AND she mentioned that she and the bride were not talking to each other right now! Sometimes weddings just bring out the worst in people!

I survived! I had two weddings yesterday...it wasn't the actual cakes that had me stressed (they were small), it was one of the venues! I was on the road most of the day - the first delivery was great...staff very helpful and laid-back.

Next venue was one of the biggest hotels in the city, and is total opposite to the first venue. They insist that vendors have an escort through the hotel (last time I was there, the head bell-boy accused me of trying to steal one of the luggage carts - apparently, I took too long with the delivery!! icon_mad.gif I can't even fit one of those things in my car!) icon_confused.gif Anyway, long story short, I stressed about going back for about a month, and what my strategy would be...I walked in without asking for an escort, delivered my cake, got THREE wedding co-ordinators to sign off on the delivery (no, I don't trust this hotel!), took my photo, and walked out without any confrontation with nasty bell-boys.

We ordered pizza last night to celebrate my victory! icon_rolleyes.gif

That poor couple. I cant imagine having something like that happen on my wedding day.
I would cut up the fruit and freeze it also with some lemon juice and you can always have fruit salad year round.

Just wanted to update everyone. I heard from the bride a few days ago and he's home and doing well. They rescheduled for August. Thanks for the prayers.
