I was asked to make the Indian day cake for the second year in a row. When they called they told me to do whatever I want. They just said vanilla flavor, and for 150 people. So I had fun!
When I arrived there to set up my cake, it was raining. It's an outdoor event so we had to find a way to set it up without getting it wet. The only spot left for the cake, that was covered, was on the concert stage. So I set up the cake there. I tell you, it's the best place to have when you want everyone to see it!! icon_lol.gif
While I was setting it up, the lady in charge of the event took the mic and said:"Let's thank Lorris for the beautiful cake, she's our official cake lady here at the Cree center" icon_eek.gificon_redface.gif I was really turning red, in front of all those people! But talk about great publicity!!! During the year they always call me for birthdays, baby showers and so on... So they must love my cakes! thumbs_up.gif I'm proud of that one. The mocassins idea came from my DH. I was wondering about what I could do on the cake, and he said that it would be a great idea to have stuff that they make and sell at the Cree center. icon_rolleyes.gif I love my DH!

Cute cake. It's great that you got acknowledged for it. Question: Do they really call it "Indian" day? I thought that term wasn't used anymore. It's not used in my state anyhow.

Go to a reservation, the people living on it still use it and don't find it offensive. The federal government still has the BIA and IHS (Indian Health Services).

I live on a reservation with my husband who is Native and they use the terms interchangably. The school system has the Braves as their team name and another still uses the term "Indian" in their offical name and there aren't people protesting to have it removed.
