What size should a smash cake be? 4,5,0r 6 inches wide. Is it one layer from a 3" pan, two layers from a 2"pan or two layers from a 3" pan? Sorry, really new here and I haven't done any birthday cakes before. I am wanting to put woodstock(large cake is snoopy) on the smash cake as a bct.

I do a 4 inch pan. It really doesn't need filling, unless the customer requests it. You can ask them. I think 3" deep looks better. If you do 2", then I'd put a filling of the frosting in the center.

I usually do a 4" round one layer (2" tall) cake, with no filling. The only time I'll do a 5" or 6" is if that's all I have available. I always make smash and 1st anniversary cakes when I have leftover batter. I think a 4" round cake is plenty, since all they're going to do is smash into it! icon_smile.gif Plus, I don't charge for smash cakes, so I don't think they need to be much bigger. icon_rolleyes.gif

I have the mini round pans from Wilton to do my smash cakes. They're small and cute. I do two layers.
