I need a catfish for Thursday.
Not sure if it will be MMF or BC.
Now, can you paint on BC ?
If so how ?
I know you can paint on MMF, but not sure if they like it or not, so trying to find out about the BC.
O.k., enough of the icing, any ideas on how to shape one ?
I have saw alot of great fish on here like the designs, just trying to get a helping hand from someone. ![]()
brightbrats--
I made a catfish cake--only the head and tail sticking out of "water" frosting. It's posted in my photos.
I made a 2-layer 1/4 sheet cake. Then using some leftover (frozen) cake pieces, I shaped catfish head. Frosted with BC in greyish/blue and white on underside, brushed in to blend then smoothed with Viva. Whiskers were made with florist wire that I covered in fondant. Tail was completely fondant. Hope the helps--Pam
Mac your cakes are awesome, and thanks for the tips.
Mac, I love your catfish! I can't believe the front is BC. I would have sworn it was fondant! I've got one to do for Saturday and I hope you don't mind, I got my inspiration from yours! I am going to cover mine with fondant, I think, using a couple of shades of gray and blue-gray with white underneath. I thought I'd "paint" on the fondant to shade it a bit on the edges, then put luster dust on him to get the wet shiny look.
You can paint on buttercream. I've done it to highlight water, but did it to just blend in colors. Which is probably what you would need to do.
Brightbrats, are you wanting to do just a fish on a board? I have a picture saved of a real catfish that you could use to go by. I had thought about that, using a loaf pan or a 9 X 13, cutting it in two longways to mold the catfish, trimming the end for the tail. But all the pictures I've seen of a just a fish, look like a dead fish laying there. I decided I wanted a live fish, so I talked to the customer and she liked my idea. I'm going to make a "lake" with a fisherman in a boat and the huge catfish in the water - "the one that got away".
