If I already have a pre-made chocolate buttercream icing, do I just add more cocoa and water to make it a deeper brown colour?
Can't imagine trying to use that much brown colouring to darken it up.
Please steer me in the right direction.

I would imagin. Toba Garret uses 1 cup of cocoa powder for her chololate buttercream... did you use that much? If so then I would go ahead with the coloring.

If my frostings are not dark enough I add a little black coloring, but I do it a little at a time so that I don't go too dark. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

The Americolor browns are really good. Check out the stump cake in my photos. The groom didn't like chocolate, so I had to use vanilla buttercream and color it brown. I did use a bit of black too to get the "stump effect"

On a cake that I done Friday, I really cheated. I needed dark brown and added some store bought milk chocolate frosting to mine and got the color I needed and it tasted good.
