especially red is hard to achieve. Do you have some ruby, it might help. You need to let the paste sit, the colours will darken over time. I usually colour my fondant etc. at least a day before I use them.

Have you checked out this article here?
Maybe you can add a little black to the brown to get it a dark brown, or use cocoa powder.

Yes I just saw the chart thank you. I did add a little black no luck. I am afraid to add cocoa powder as I need this to get very hard and dont know if that will affect it. I am making reindeers. Cheffie icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Are you coloring the pastillage BEFORE it dries hard? Then I would suggest using PLENTY of color. The deeper the colors, the more you will have to use, just like in your icings.

Also, whenever i try to make a brown or black, I start with chocolate. I don't know what recipe you're using, but can you add cocoa powder to your pastillage mixture before it dries? If not, try dusting with cocoa powder after you add the coloring. Of course, it will all depend on what you have on hand, etc.

Best of Luck!

I always use cocoa powder if I am making a dark color. I have found that going through the brown of cocoa uses less dye and tastes better. I've not noticed any real change in the texture due to the c.p. Hope this helps.
