i am currently home with my 5 month old daughter and don't have to go back to my FT job until april. but, i am seriously considering finding a new job because of the commute and daycare costs.
i have been thinking about trying waitressing. the hours are much better for me and there are many restaurants near my home so the commute wouldn't be an issue.
are there any waitresses out there? how much would you say you can make in one night of work?

When I was working for about 5 hrs a day I would average (along with the $2.50/hr wages) about $12.00 an hour. The one thing I'd really warn you on is that there will be the occational jerk that shakes the ice in the empty cup at you for a refill instead of just asking or waiting for you to get to them, the guy that's so hungry and cranky that he takes his anger out on you and litterally yells in your face, that snobby lady that thinks everything and everyone in the restaurant is discusting, and the people that think their s@#$ don't stink and treat you like a pee-on. I have to tell you I got treated like that for abou the first year that worked as a waitress until word stared getting around that I was just there to make money while I was going to school and not planning on being there for ever and making it a career. Some people! But mind you it was the money that kept me there for three years.

I waitressed when I was 19 & 20 and I wouldn't go back to it unless I absolutely had to.

Min. was $2.13 and I had went up to $2.33, lol!

I would pull an easy $300 or more per week. Of coarse this was the morning shift, where on Sundays alone I'd make over $100. But, this is my smaller town area.

Good Luck to you!

I waitressed for 3 years starting at $2.13+ tips, when I was done waitressing I was making $2.45 +tips. I liked it somewhat when I first started but by the end of my 3 years let's just say I really needed any other job but that one!

Same here. I'd have to be really desperate for a job to o back to it. The money is okay but that's about it. Take it back, lost 20 lbs. with all the walking I did... the reason I'm contimplating on going back for. I hate exercising and that's definately a way to get back into shape without putting in a whole bunch of effort compared to jogging on the treadmill for 20 minutes and then lifting for another 30... too much commitment for me.
