I am making a wedding cake for a couple that is hiking up on top of a mountain for their wedding and they want to mimick that on the top layer of cake. So what would be great to use to make a mound/ mountain top, which also will be able to hold bride and groom topper but small enough to fit a 6" cake. I was thinking maybe oven safe bowl! Let me know your ideas please....

I second the mini wondermold pan. If it's too short, just add a small round of cake underneath.

The mini wondermold pan won't fit a topper on it will it? I was thinking maybe half of the sports ball pan? It's not as mountain-like though... I would probably just carve it out of a small pile of cut up sheet cake...that way you can have a flatter top? But hey, I do like to do things the hard way icon_wink.gif .

Good luck! It sounds like an awesome cake idea!

I would carve it out of cake making ridges and things then cover it with MMF that has brown mixed to a point where it is moddeled (misspelled). See my volcano pic. A smaller version and a flatter top I think would be the simplest.

Hoep this helps

Ok made sample cake used pyrex bowl too small, also use mini wondermold pan will not hold topper, I don't have ball pan so I haven't tried that. thumbsdown.gif
Does anyone have any more ideas, most everyone I talked to at bakeries said they didn't know of anything for a 6" cake because of cake topper sizes.

So if anyone has another idea would gladly give it a try... Thanks

Can you not make the couple hiking up the mountain and decorate the top bit as it would be at the wedding? As they would be doing anyway.Dont know just an idea..

Okay, I have no idea what happened to the reply I just posted. Hope it doesn't double post.

What if you place the topper on top of the cake, off center, then make some jagged peaks and place them around the topper so it looks like they're standing on a flat part of the top of the mountain? You could make the peaks out of RK treats and cover them with fondant or better, buttercream for a more rustic look. Add a little white to the top to look like snow...?
