Hello to all - This is the first time I am posting a question here and I need all the help I can get. I have been making cakes for over 10 years and surprisingly I have never used fondant. I like the look but am not too fond of the flavor. I have only tried wilton's fondant. I will be making my niece her sweet sixteen cake this fall and she has picked some dark colors. I was able to get wilton's red fondant the deep blood red she wants but I am not sure if I will get the results for the deep colors with the MMF. I have read the posts about MMF tasting better and if so, would like to know if anyone has had any good results with deep rich colors using the MMF. If so, please share pictures and let me know what brand of food colorings gave you the best results. PLEASE HELP!

Sincerely,

I color my MMF all the time with great success. I use different gel type colors. I think you will enjoy using MMF. You can flavor it any flavor you want too.

First welcome to CakeCentral! You are going to learn a lot here!

WHen I need dark colors of MMF (like red, black, blue, etc..) I color my MELTED marshmallows BEFORE adding the PS. It is a lot less work than kneeding the color in and takes a lot less color.

For the wilton fondant there are a lot of people on here that do not like it. If you want to buy a premade fondant that is red I would suggest Satin Ice. I order mine from www.cakesbysam.com but I know there are a lot of other places you can order it from or even directly from satin ice.

Good luck and if you are on cake central a lot between now and the cake it will be an AWESOME cake!

Oh forgot to mention the food colorings. I am a BIG fan of americolor. You can order them here on cakecentral in the shop or if you order the fondant from cakesbysam they have americolor also (or if CakeCentral is out of the color you want, but CakeCentral definitely has the best prices!)
