I want to try the Viva method for the first time but since I am new to cake decorating I haven't tried anything but the Wilton recipe for BC icing and the Viva method calls for crusting BC but they are pretty much the same thing except for 1/2 cup of butter which I wouldn't want anyways I need this icing white!! Is it ok to use this recipe for the Viva method this BC icing crusts anyways the Wilton one I mean.

Wilton's Class Buttercream Icing (all crisco) is a great example of crusting BC.

Basicly a crusting buttercream is a buttercream that gets a slight crust over the outside of the icing. So after 10-15 minutes you should be able to touch the icing and not have it stick to your finger. If your icing sticks to your finger it will stick to the paper towel.

Since I've read about the Viva method, that's all I use and ever will use! I use the Wilton BC with the 1/2 butter & 1/2 Crisco to frost my cakes. It crusts wonderful and then I use the Viva. My Wilton teacher is always impressed with the smoothness of my cakes. Thanks again CC!!
