Hello. We are having a luau themed block party and I was searching through the gallery for ideas and I came across this totem cake. While there isnt much carving involved, I just have never done it before. Would I stack them, freeze them then ice? Or would I just freeze the top layer carve then put on the cake? Any helpful advice on carving would be appreciated. Thanks!
Here is the cake I am talking about

If i was going to make this cake i would make 2 or 3 3 inch high cakes, cut each cake in half and lay them side by side. You can then do the nose in fondant, and ice it all in buttercream. There is no need to do any carving.

OHHHH! I was thinking of a rectangular cake...now I see. Thanks for the clarification!
BTW..thanks for your time! I appreciate it. Maybe I will do it that way!

sorry im an idiot, i shoulda said *round* cakes
heheehhe
Even if you had to cut off a bit off the top to make the top less rounded, i mean after you've assembled, it would require a lot less mucking around than a square/rectangular cake : )

no worries, you're welcome, i'd love to see what you end up doing : )
