I've only done a couple all together! I think it would depend on the cake design/size as to how many I would want to tackle! I think for the average cake (2 or 3 tiers), 2 maximum a weekend would be my comfort limit - but that would be with no other party cakes to do, then one would be more than enough! I like to give each cake my full attention and there are only so many hours in a day icon_lol.gif !

I don't know if I ever want to try 2 in one weekend again. I just had trouble saying "no" because it was a cousin and a good family friend. I have another wedding this coming weekend. This hobby can quickly turn into a job!

Only one per weekend. Gotta have limits. The stress would kill me if I did more.

In June, I did 3 in one weekend, along with a rehearsal dinner cake for 100 that was sculpted, also. And 3 orders of chocolate-dipped strawberries totalling 480. I don't know how I did it. I just did! Will I do it again? Probably not, if my sanity holds. It took me about 5 days of sixteen hours of work to get it all done, set up, and delivered.
In May, I catered and did a wedding cake for 60 on a Saturday, came home, and finished a wedding cake for 75 the next day. Sunday morning, I did 100 bride and groom strawberries. I had one person help me serve at the wedding, but that was the only help I had. Well, my husband ran to the store about a dozen times. And Wal-mart had strawberries on sale every time I needed them those months. So, that was a little profit bonus.
Now, I limit it to no more than 2 big orders within 3 days. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Good heavens!!! icon_surprised.gif I don't think I could ever handle that load!

This was funny...I purchased the "Caution" magnet sign for my car just for this weekend. Everyone commented on it and even the wedding photographer took a picture of it. icon_lol.gif

I'm limiting myself to 1 wedding a week because I don't want to do more.

But of course I just said yes to a shower cake and a wedding that is 45 minutes away in two weeks, 3 days after I get back from vacation...! yipes.

The instructor I just had for a wedding cake class said that back in the day when she was doing them a lot, she'd do like 10 a weekend!! omg icon_eek.gif

The most wedding cakes I have done in a weekend is 8. Two on Fri, five on Sat. and one on Sun. This is really not too fun, but it is hard for me to say no, and the lure of the money isn't bad either when you have DH student loans to pay off!

My wife & I typically average 6 wedding cakes a week for the year. This October we have 41 weddings (about 10 a week), the most we have ever done in a week is 12... that week sucked. icon_biggrin.gif

On "Ace of Cakes" the other night, Duff and his staff did 27 cakes in one week and I'm quite sure at least half of those were wedding cakes. Or at least it looked as if they were. And they it looked like they delivered a great deal of them on the same day which I assumed was a Saturday. Just my guess though. Can you imagine??? Not me!!

The most weddings I ever did in one weekend was a couple years ago ... I had SIX weddings in one weekend. It was completely insane, and I don't know if I'll ever take that many again. Granted, the money was great, but the stress was just crazy. !!!!!!

Wow! I wish I could say the money was great with my few weddings, but I haven't gotten into a good business mind set yet. My college professors would be ashamed of me having a degree in business if they knew I was such a wimp when it comes to charging for my work.

I have one more wedding this weekend, and I have come down with one heck of a head cold. I have a box of tissues, a pot of green tea brewing, my nasal spray and a moutain of laundry and dirty cake pans from last week. icon_cry.gif I might just take today off and be behind one day in my baking time frame.

You all are super! I guess that I am just inexperienced, but I get stressed over every cake! Let alone doing more than one! I would not be able to handle it!

It was a blessing that DH was out of town for the week on business. The kids and I ate out, or on the sofa, because the table is still covered in cake stuff.

I just laid down for about and hour and a half, let me eat something and try to get this place picked up before I have to turn the oven on again.

I had 3 weddings last weekend: two 4-tier & one 3-tier (2 I delivered).
Plus the other weekend cakes:

two 22x15 sheetcakes
two 11x15 sheetcakes
one 12x18 sheetcake
one 9x13 sheetcake

And....to top it all off....I beat the rain yesterday and picked 6 quarts of wild blackberries to make jam. And... today?....I'm tired icon_sad.gif .

I saw that, and I love Ace of Cakes. But Duff has several helpers, and I don't.

Back in the day, when I got married, my cake decorator agreed to three cakes in that weekend, and did poorly on every one of them. I was talking to the caterer, and he said after the embarrassment he sufferred by giving her referrals, he would never refer her again.

I'm a total amateur. I do only one wedding cake a weekend, and I may commit to two small cakes the same weekend. But I have a serious full-time job, like 50 to 60 hours a week and four kids. When I get better, I might would do two stacked cakes a weekend, but I don't know. These are pretty good money, so one makes a decent paycheck for me, and if you add a couple of small cakes, I can clear $300 or $400 profit, so that's plenty for me.......... maybe if I can ever retire on cake I would do more, but............. Right now I do it very part-time.......

Right now, I'm trying to get into fondant, making more cakes of fondant, and figuring out the whimsy cake, man, people want those......... I still have so much to learn.

I've got two layers in the oven right now. Five tier bride's cake with each tier a different flavor and a two tier chocolate groom's cake for Saturday. Thursday I am supplying peach cobbler for 40 people for the rehearsal dinner.

My mom said that I have to take the next month off!
