My niece asked me to do a Baby shower cake for her....she knows I'm new at this...so I made it clear not to expect professional results! But I'd still like it to be nice. Well, today I did a practice cake of the 3D Noahs Ark with pound cakes carved as the ark. Forget it ...its out of my expertise level right now. I won't go into the horrid details.
I think I'd do better with something I can do ahead of time....like maby a flat Ark from fondant to place in center of cake. I can do the animal heads from gumpaste.
PLEASE- I need to ask if anyone has a templete or directions for doing the ark from fondant? ( I already have directions for animal heads)
Thank you!!
Do you need to do a Noah's Ark theme, or are there other themes you are thinking about? I did a bunch of baby cupcakes out of the Wilton 2006 yearbook for my sister-in-law's baby shower that were a HUGE hit and SOOOO easy to do.
The Wilton 2006 Yearbook I believe also had cupcakes for a jungle theme with candy melt animals . . . you might be able to take some of that and translate it for a noah's ark theme. You could use the oval baking pans for the cake, maybe do some cupcakes with the animal candy melts (they looked really easy to do and the Wilton Yearbook directions were very well-written) . . . It was the cover of the 2006 Yearbook, and I think you can still see the picture online on www.wilton.com.
Here is instructions for one that looks fairly easy, and you could use the oval pans rather then sculpting if you have them.

Here is another one that shows how the ark was carved and mentions where she got the instructions for the animals.

This one did just the animal heads but they look cute and fairly simple to do.
