I know a while back there was a thing on here about doing roses with tootsie rolls and starbursts. Does anyone know where that info is?

Ritzy Fritz did a rose out of a red starburst. She has a picture of it in her photo gallery. Hope this helps!!!

Can you pm me directions please? Did you use luster dust on it? It looks really shiny.

wow, I just tried the tootsie roll roses because I had some on hand and it is my best looking rose ever! OK, so I am a real newbie and just attempted by first BC rose yesterday, so I'm very green...but I have to say, it looks pretty decent!!

Now, does anyone know...some of my petals seem to flop a little. Will refridgerating it help, or no??

thanks!

So would you all use these instead of fondant or gumpaste roses on a cake? Would you disclose what they are to the client?

kdhoffert it all depends on how big you want the roses. 1 rose for me took about 4 starburst.

1st you divide the starburst into 4 pieces use 1 piece as the base, form it with your fingers into a hersheys kiss shape. then use another piece and thin it out with your fingers in the shape of a petal and wrap around the base to make the circle middle. break off pieces of the same size and shape into petals with your fingers for the 1st row, 3 petals for the 1st row then make 5 petals slightly bigger for the 2nd row and 7 pieces a little bigger for the 3rd row. just apply the petals as you would on a buttercream rose. it helps to have a pic of a buttercream rose in front of you so you can see the positioning. hope this is not too confusing but i just did it freehanded, did not really measure. I did not use any luster dust, it just shines that way naturally.

kate714 it flops because the petals might be way too thin, if you make them a little thicker it will hold up better. that happened to me also but even if you refrigerate when you take it back out and it gets back to room temp the same thing will happen.

cakediva i wouldnt make theses unless they were requested. they are time consuming but yummy.

heres a link.

I really didnt follow this way but it might make more sense to you than my instructions.

I just tried the starburst and found it a little harder to work with than the tootsie roll...maybe it needed to be warmed up more. I'll try again later. Thanks again for the info! yours looks great.
