So I have a problem. I bought some luster dust and vodka yesterday because that is what they told me I needed. I am going to use it to paint some chocolate "tools".
Well when I got home, my husband reminded me that the people I am making this cake for, the dad is a recovering alcoholic.

So, is there any thing else I can apply the luster dust with besides vodka? I don't have time to go back to my baking store but I could go to a grocery store.

Thanks for your help.

lemon extract because of its high alcohol content..I haven't used the clear extract myself..

You may have a problem painting the tools...it doesn't stick very well to chocolate.Unfortunatley lustre dust works better dry dusted on chocolate pieces.Try it though...

If you use vodka to mix the luster dust into, the alcohol totally evaporates. There won't be any at all, all that remains will be the dust. The only purpose the vodka serves is to make the dust a liquid so that it can be painted on. You would have absolutely NO vodka in the final product....
