I got a last minute order yesterday morning for a bridal shower cake to feed 150 people. I quoted them an overly reasonable price (350) and went into overdrive mode to make the cake. I knew I could do it. I didn't get the confirmation til AFTER 11:30 AM and the cake was due by 4PM today.
Long story short. The cake was a huge pain in the butt. I enjoyed every minute of it because even the trials are my passion in this business, but it was a lot of work. I made 7 gumpaste hibiscus and all in all it came out farely well.
However, on the trip over (I was unaware that I would be delivering this 15 miles from my home, in the hot Arizona sun, and with no a/c cuz it wnet out yesterday) the middle layer drooped. Bad.
So when I got there, they were thumbing their noses at it and ended up only paying me 1/2. I accepted that because quite frankly, the middle layer was drooping quite a bit and I didn't expect them to be happy with it. I feel horrible, and frustrated at my failure, but frustrated also that they had the cojones to be so darned picky with less than 24 hours notice! AND I did gumpaste flowers, AND I did a very expensive cake recipe. It's like, TOUGH TOOTLES!
I got pictures of the cake PRIOR to the drooping, and I'll post them later.
I just had to get that out of my system.

So so sorry ... all your hard work & effort ... and I bet it's the disappointment, rather than the money that hurts hardest. My sympathies .... I hate when something like that happens. But well done on getting a cake there all the same, particularly given the really short deadline.
I'm so sorry to hear about the mishap with your cake. I know that this so discouraging. Keep your chin up, sometimes things just happen that are out our control. I think it was really tacky of the customer to think she could get that cake for half price.

Sorry this happened to you. We always learn from things like this. Next you'll know to ask in advance how far the customer lives and if they could meet you half way. That's the least they could have done since the order was placed so last minute.
