Ok so obviously this post is personal. Im so upset I dont know what to do. My self esteem is so small. And I dont know why I got fired. I mean yes they told me a reason but I cant believe it. I had been there 2 yrs with no warnings or anything. Just one day, "your fired". Im actually still in shock. 
And this was 3 weeks ago. Anyone else been fired? Does it always come as such a huge shock? I also find myself thinking about it like every other minute. Am I obsessed? My husband says I shoud be reporting them to every place I can for all the laws and codes they are breaking and have broken in the past. As much as I'm angry 
, I just want to have nothing more to do with them. Is being fired supposed to feel this bad 
I am also wondering, do you ever really recover from this? I feel horrible. I know I do great work. Thats what makes this so hard. Hate to keep harping on it but the week before I got fired my manager told me that I was doing a great job despite all the short notice she gives me. Help!! This being fired thing just feels awful
I've been fired 4 times, once from a a paper route that I had (which I hated anyways), once from a chineese restaurant (that bummed me out, they had awesome food), once from a mom/pop business (which sucked but at the same time I was getting bored with the monotony), and once from a job at a computer store (which was fine because one of the sales people was a complete A-hole and he made it very stressful to work there).
Getting fired sucks, especially when you have bills to pay and food to put on the table. BUT you need to keep your chin up, freshen up your resume and start the job hunt again with a positive attitude.

lol- I know what you mean Doug...when I got fired from my computer job I felt like going back to Burger King (again) because I knew I could get a job there. But hubby wouldn't here of it, so I kept my resume posted online. A temp agency called me and had me interview for a temp position for the company I currently work for. It fell through, but the manager of the department at the time was so impressed with me that he asked me to submit my resume to the company so that it would be on file when something opened up that was more permanent. Well several months went by (with another temp job in between) before I got that call, and I've been with my current company ever since, it's been 3 1/2 years.
Well I know here that labour laws state that they have to have a valid reason to fire you and essentially you must be "written up" or given verbal warnings regarding your performance before you are actually fired.You need to be diciplined 3 times before you can be fired...verbal warning first and second time,suspended third time and then after that you can be fired but they cannot just say your fired because I don't like you anymore or whatever.They also must have the appropriate documentation to prove these warnings and you sign them if you agree with the dicipline or decline if you don't....Companies have to have a good reason to fire.You can dispute it also through unemployment since a firing doesn't allow you to collect UI benefits but if you can prove or show that the company fired you without sufficient reasons...you can get UI benefits while you look for another job.That happened to me 10 yrs ago when I was fired from a Dental office and was given no reason or warning.That was the only time I was ever fired and I phoned my then Husband (since divorced) and cried for 15 minutes.I was bummed out for about 3 weeks until I found another job.Also firings go on your Employment record so you don't want too many of those as other companies of course have access to those records.Cheer up!!! Like Doug said...when one door shuts..another one opens!! You will find another job bigger and better than that one!!! I met my husband now at the job I found and 7 yrs later and 2 beautiful children....It will all work out!! 
Thanks for all the words of encouragment. I know all will be fine I'm just so aggrivated. I wish I would have known how they are when I began working for this company. Ok... calm down....breath!! 
Ok, I have been fired twice... first one was from Baskin-Robbins when I was 14. The boss's son was taking the sherbet every Fri. night to make drinks with his friends and he blamed me when his Dad did inventory... Uh, yeah.... 14 years old, walking 1 mile to work and they think I carried 3 enormous tubs of ice cream each weekend!
Anyway, second one hurt a lot more... worked at a medical office. It still makes me feel sick in the stomach when I think about it and it has been 9 years!

I have been fired once and it was my last job. I was working at a movie theater as the assistant manager for about 6 months when we got a new manager. I thought it was a sood move because the old manager was young and didn't run the place very well. I was tired of picking up the slack so I was very glad when the new manager came in. She was actually from a smaller theater in town, but had about 16 years with the company and knew what she was doing. We got along great. At first. There were some things that happened at the theater when I first started before she was there) such as all the employees playing hide and go seek in the theater after we closed. I didn't think it was problem because we had done it just a few weeks before with the manager that was there at the time. She asked me about it months after it happened and I told her the truth about it as well as a few other small things she asked me about. She said as far as she was concerned it was in the past and was not going to be brought up again. Well, needless to say about 2 weeks later she called me in to work early. When I got there she told me that I was being let go for the things she said we were not going to talk about again. She also asked me not to come back to the theater. That really hurt me because I loved my job there and I loved the people that I worked with. I had been there for almost a year at that time and didn't feel like I was being treated fairly. Especially since she banned me from the theater. About 6 months later she called me and told me she missed me and asked if I could come up to the theater to talk to her. Out of curiosity I went. When I got there she had the nerve to ask me if I could make 2 birthday cakes for some of the employees. I refused to do it and I have not been back since although she tells me I am not banned anymore.
woo hooo!! I got 2 letters in the mail today. When I opened them they were from the unemployment office. I had put in a claim for wrongful termination and unemployment. After weeks of waiting and hearing all the nasty things the company was trying to say about me, when they were asked to produce any shred of evidence that could prove I did any of those horrible things, they couldnt find any proof!! I knew they couldnt because I knew I didnt do anything wrong. Well one letter stated that I was approved for unemployment and the other letter was my first check. Wow!! Dont know if I am happier knowing I won or them knowing they lost! Thanks for all the encouraging words everyone has had to offer. It really makes you feel good when complete strangers encourage you to keep going. Thanks to everyone who said something nice.
I am a little late for this post but I wanted to tell you about my firing story. I went to college for the whole purpose of doing this one career. I worked there for two years and it WAS MY LIFE. I got up every morning so excited to go--I love my job.
Then I switched offices and began working with folks who were unethical and rude. Things got so bad I turned in my resignation which was denied and they begged me to stay.
A week later--BOOM--fired. It was the most humiliating, heartbreaking experience. I couldn't sleep, I was crying all the time. I kept telling friends that I was laid off because I just couldn't face what had happened. My husband told me to take the summer and stay at home because, quite frankly, I was so obsessed with my career that I hardly ever saw my family.
Anyway--it was like something had died--for awhile--I kept thinking--what am I supposed to do with all these specific skills that cannot be used anywhere else???
Now--three years and 6 months later, I have to tell you that I was a complete idiot. I have had a new job for 3 years and it was just like breathing again. I cannot imagine I ever cried over losing my old one.

Thanks JustFrosting. Its nice to know that someone actually felt like I felt. I would get so angry/upset that I got fired. I mean crying upset. Then I would get upset because I was crying. Cooking and baking are my life. Thats what I went to school for for years. It did make me feel humiliated and embarrassed. I actually told my best friend who is like my sister that I quit just so I didnt have to tell her what really happened. But things are getting better. Like I said they couldnt come up with a shred of evidence that I wasent doing my job satisfactory so my unemployment was approved. Makes me feel good knowing they didnt have a thing on me. The 2 yrs I was there, not one bad thing. That is some sort of consolation prize 
I know i am late on this one also but had to tell my story as well. I was fired 3 times. First I was 16 and a waitress. Supposedly stealing from the cash register in a cafe. It wound up being her 10 yr old son. Second the business went under. The 3rd was the hardest and a blessing. I worked in a sewing factory for 10 yrs. Over time I had developed a repetitve problem with my wrists not carpal tunnel they said but both my wrists were in splints for months. Sorry but I couldn't even wipe my *** anyway I felt better and after that they were out to get me. we had rates per hour to achieve. And I was trained on a particular machine. It was new and they had the rate so high no one could achieve it. My elbows started to hurt and I complained. (And I should also tell you we were trying to get pregnant for a year before this took place. I had my son at 27 after I was told I would never have kids. Then I met my husband at 29 we got married when I was 33 and tried to get pregnant after that.) Anyway back to story. They fired me for being under rate by less than 1%. I could believe it I was I went home and told may hubby. He was almost pleased. Not to hurt me but he knew the pain I was in. I would take so much pain relievers my stomach hurt and I was so stressed. But I cried and cried. My so had a nintendo and I played games almost no stop for weeks. Hurt my hands more but it got my mind off of my problem. Long story short. RAINBOW at the end of this story. I got pregnant my daughter was concieved about a month after I was fired. My husband says cause my stress was gone we did it. But I look at it like things happen for a reason. If you are a cake decorator maybe this is a sign for YOU. I hope this helps I know this was a long story but hope it helps. I am glad you are getting unemployment at least you have that. But something is always better around the corner.
