Airbrushing...can Anyone Do It????

Hello CCer's! I have been cake decorating for 14 years and I am also a WMI (7ish years) I have NEVER airbrushed on a cake, can I just pick it up and start? Does anyone recommend a particular airbrush set. Is there a book out there that gives step by step instructions for us beginners? Sounds nutty that I don't even know where to begin since I have been doing cakes for a long time, sorry if I sound like a ding bat it just seems so intimidating!!!
This Ronald Winbeckler book on airbrushing is good: http://shop.cakecentral.com/airbrush-techniques-cake-decorating-p-45.html?cPath=13_19
As for the airbrush, I recommend Airmaster by KopyKake. http://kopykake.com/ac_compressor_airmaster.html
O hun there's nothing really intimidating about it. Once you get the hang of it you'll be askin yerself, "Now, dang, why didn't I do this before?"
I, personally have the small "kromajet" set up. It's just perfect for what I do (lots of detail work). But I have also used the big guns, the Phiel & Holing and Bakery Crafts badger type setup (huge compressors with air regulators n such on em) The big ones run bout 300-500 bucks but the small one I have I got for like 120 with the gun and the compressor and a set of six 4 oz. bottles of colors.
I thought that was a great investment myself. But who knows.
I use a single action gun (pull the trigger paint comes out). Double action is a bit more complicated n different. You push the trigger down for color and pull it back for air.
As for instruction books. Winbecklers have a great one on airbrushing animals etc. I am basically self taught. No books here hun. O well.
I think that c.c. sells that particular book.
BTW, once you start airbrushing cakes, you'll never dye icing black again LOL![]()

ok ok cept maybe for detail work. sheesh, give a girl a break will ya LOL.
I wish that we could post videos on the tutorials here on c.c. I would really like to make one on airbrushing. (once I get a video camera, LOL)
(Can you tell I love airbrushing, hehehehe).
But, seriously, if you want to start out n practice n stuff, sheet cakes are great for that, Like a wonderful blank canvas. Go to sugarcraft.com and see what kind of set ups they have and they also have lots of books too. Some that aren't even related to caked but still good education materials.
Like I said, I have the small setup and it's perfect for me.
sugarcraft also sells the airbrush colors and sets also. You can even use the lustre dust mixed with vodka in them to spray some bling onto yer cakes.
I buy the "shooters" at the liqour store, so that way I can have a little bottle of each color already mixed n ready to go into the gun.
Dang, I know this is long, sheesh, sorry hun.
