Dora The Explorer Whimsical Cake--Need Constructive Critisim
Decorating By cassandrascakes Updated 27 Aug 2006 , 9:06pm by dodibug
I am attaching a photo of my first whimiscal cake, stacked fondant covered cake, and carved cake. It just so happens that all these firsts happened on one cake. I decided that I would no longer do character cakes for my children's birthdays, but instead use them as an opportunity to venture out and try something new. I used the method posted here at CC, and everything was going fine until it came to covering the cakes with fondant. It was extremely hard to cover those odd shapes. I would love some feedback, as I know this was nowhere near close to what I wanted to do. I was so frustrated with the fondant that I lost focus on my decorations. I was exhausted!!! I went to bed very unhappy at 5:00am.
Did I angle the sides too much? I am disappointed because everyone expects the cake decorator's kids' cakes to be "tha bomb"!! Thanks for looking and listening.
this cake is da bomb!!! i love it!!!
great job

Honestly I can't see anything wrong with it! I think it is adorable and your fondant looks flawless to me.
Girlfriend!!! What is wrong with you? The cake is "tha bomb"!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
If anyone agrues differently, tell them to stay up until 5am and do the cake. I know you've inspired me to be more adventurous!!!!!!!
Love the colors!! Love the cake!!!! Love the design!!! Love it all!!!!
Woohoo you go girl!!! Keep on baking.!!!!
Cindy
Thank you all so much. My expectations for this cake were so high! I had dreamed it about it for weeks! The stars were going to have faces, the cake would be three tiers, etc, etc. The top tier was chocolate, the bottom vanilla and the carrot cake for the third tier is in the freezer still, lol. I was so frustrated after covering the first two, that I refused to do a third. I realize after reading the comments that nobody knew what was in my head but me!! Thanks again.
That is so cool! You did a great job! If I were a kid and getting that for my birthday, I'd be thrilled! I remember some of the ones my Mom did for me when I was small- sometimes they didn't come out the way she wanted them to (and a couple of the carved cakes came out pretty badly) but my brothers and all loved them anyway, we knew how much work went into them, and they tasted great (and were still cooler than anybody elses Mom did, even if they didn't come out right)! But this one looks flawless! Great job!
Ok Cindy, it's done!! And thanks to everyone for making me feel so much better.
I think you did a great job. People don't realize how much time and effort go into our cakes. Even though we enjoy making and creating them, it takes a lot of time. GREAT JOB!!!!!! Keep on creating!!!!
