Sleepy, tired, that is.
It's now almost 5 am here and I have been working (here at my bakery)since 9 am yesterday. This certainly isn't the first time and I imagine it won't be the last. Please tell me I'm not the only one pulling these all nighters.

I'll go home soon and then I'll be up at 7am and back to work by 9. I imagine I'll be working tomorrow night too.

YAWN!! I'm so sleepy icon_smile.gif

(I know this was a goofy post, sorry, LOL)

Littlebits, I hope you are safe there late by yourself and also don't have far to drive home. I know how you feel! Sometimes I have to pull an all nighter during the week because I have to work on a cake after I get off from work and then literally stay up all night then change clothes and off to work I go. Believe me when I get home the next day I usually fall straight in bed without dinner or conversation! My goal is to get good enough to be self-employed. Hang in there, Littlebits! "I feel your pain!"

Amen Sister! I come home from a full time job and a one and a half hour drive home, then have to start on cake stuff for the rest of the night. I end up getting to bed any time between 12am-4am. Then I must get back up at 5:30am to go back to the job that pays all the bills.

I also long for the day that I can do the cake thing full time. I always feel like the time I spend at my full time job is a waste. I could be getting so much cake stuff done! icon_smile.gif

I functioned on an average of 4 hours sleep a night for over a year. The only thing that got me thru was the Food Channel ... someone on there said when you start your own business, just be prepared to not get any sleep. I would just think of that and tell myself "Hey! You're not losing it! You're just normal!" icon_lol.gif

LOL! Well, I don't know that I'm "normal" per se, but at least I know it's not just me. I tell you what, this is only the beginning month 3 of owning my business. I was told 6 months was the breaking point. So, if I can make it until then, I'll be good to go. Now debi, you're telling me it'll be a year?! icon_eek.gif LOL. I'll see if I can make it.

One good thing is that we are going to hire a little help finally!!! She starts tomorrow. So, that'll be nice.

I am still so behind today. I need to get off of this computer and get to work so I'm not here until 5 am again.

OK - lunch break is over. icon_smile.gif back to the mixer I go. Have a great day!

no, no, no. During that year, I was working a full time job PLUS doing wedding cakes every weekend PLUS doing caterings every weekend PLUS doing 100 dz cookies a week for a car dealership.

It was also the year I stopped wearing contacts and make-up. My sister's reaction????? "OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

(See..... she's SEEN me without make-up! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif )

I gotta give it to y'all - you're amazing w/ the dedication you have. I can't believe you can function on such liitle sleep. I'd probably crumple up and die with hours you're pullin'. I have two little tiny ones that don't always let me sleep so good but i think I probably get more sleep in 1 night than you've gotten all week (sorry, not to rub it in but thats crazy!) We (and by that I mean my hubby) just opened our own business - not in the cake industry - and my poor husband is the same way. He works soooo hard and gets very little sleep. Watching him go through this has given me a whole new appreciation for anyone who takes that leap of faith and puts in the hours it takes to run your own business. I had no idea untill now what it takes. Keep up the good work and hang in there!

I can't tell you how many nights I have stayed up. I think the longest I have worked straight in a row was 48 hours, I slept for 2 hours and got back up and worked another 12. Unfortunately it is the nature of the beast. Most of our orders are for the week-end so we have a short window to get alot of work done. It helps if you have some extra help, even if it is just to do the clean-up and wrapping boards, etc... My average week with a store front was at least 80 hours, but then I was running 2 business' at the time. You can expect to work alot, there will be good weeks and bad weeks, take advantage of the good, rest on the bad ones. Good Luck.

Well, atl east you ladies are up working! My son was in the hospital last week due to a 105 fever and then developed some kind of viral flu and chest cold. So I can't sleep because I can't breath. This thing has been crazy- throwing up, deep chest cough, runny nose, ears hurt, throat hurts, head is pounding. I wish I had a cake this week end, although it is probably best seeing as how sick we all are. Now my little man is running around jumping off of the bed and Mommy does not even have the energy to tell him to be careful!

harrisonsmama - I hope you are much better soon! I have 3 little ones and I so understand how hard it is for the mama to get sick.

Well, my week is over - yipee (she says weakly) I worked Thursday from 9 am to 5 am Friday. Then slept from 6 to 7:30. Worked from 9 ish Friday morning until 1:30am Saturday. Then I worked from 8 am today (Saturday) until 2:30. Then delivered the cakes at 4. (BTW, that's going to be another post, LOL) I should be sleeping, but I can't right now.

I think the longest I have worked straight so far (since owning a store) was about 55 hours or so. It was horrible!! I guess it's going to be like this for a while.

I'm so glad to know that I am not the only one sleepless. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Now - go get some sleep!! icon_smile.gif
