Would someone please explain to me how you make a cupcake cake?
I've noticed that you can arrange them however you wish but........do you stick them to the board somehow so they don't move? How do you cover it with icing so smooth without it falling between the cracks between the cups? Is it that the icing is thick enough not to droop in the cracks? Do you trim the top off of your cups as well?

Sorry for soooooooo many questions but tyvm for any help you may give.

I made 1 cupcake cake. It's the Strawberry Shortcake hat in my pics. I secured them to the board with a dot of icing underneath each one (they do this in bakerys too). I didn't trim mine (actually, I didn't even think to do that. I probably should have). I didn't smooth icing over them first. I just used my regular medium consistency icing and decorated them with tip #74 to get the look I wanted. I have a couple of holes in the hat because I ran out of icing icon_redface.gif .

here's a link to a thread that talks about the "how-to" of cupcake cakes. It also has a link to a tutorial on them.

Make sure you stagger the cupcakes to avoid gaps, I made one today and didn't stagger, it took forever to try to fill the holes! I didn't have any trouble with the cupcakes sliding, I covered my board with foil. Good luck!

Does the frosting get all over when you pull it apart to eat the cupcakes?

We ate the CCC today and the BC icing held up very well, it stayed on each individual cupcake, it was a big hit!
