I know this may be more of a personal opinion for most, but.......

Do you prefer the cookies and cream filling in a chocolate cake or white cake? I want to make this for the first time and don't know which cake would better complement the filling.

Also, chocolate or vanilla frosting?

Thanks for your help!

Well, I tried the filling in a white cake and I love white cake, but feel that it would have been much better in a chocolate cake. I also made the buttercream icing and chopped up oreo cookies and put in it. It was very tasty.

I think it goes well with both and I use a vanilla buttercream.

I like it with chocolate cake better. Last time I used regular BC and it was good. I haven't tried it with chocolate icing, hmmmm... that might be good too. Is there such a thing as to much chocolate? If so, I've yet to find it! icon_lol.gif

My favorite - chocolate cake, and the filling and frosting are whipped cream w/ the crushed Oreos folded in - recipe in the Recipe section here. Yummo!! The cookies soften up a bit in the cream, not too sweet, but so good! icon_smile.gif

Looks like the chocolates have it!!! Buttercream with oreos in it sounds yummy also.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions - I'll be trying this in the next few days - I've been experimenting with flavors and fillings lately to expand my repertoire. icon_smile.gif

I liked the idea of this filling but don't like to use fillings that can't sit out. So I made a thin buttercream and mixed up crushed oreos in it. It turned out great and we all liked it. So far I have used it with all chocolate cake, and then with a layer of chocolate, layer of the oreo cookie buttercream, and then a layer of white cake. Both were great!

Another question since TexasSugar mentioned it - I was going to use the recipe listed on CC with the whipping cream and oreos - how long can it be left out without any problems?

Thanks!

I would say white, that way the chocolate cake doesn't over power the filling. IMO

I don't know about how long it can be left out with whipping cream, but I like cookies n' cream with chocolate too! I just add crushed oreos to any BC icing.

Let us know how you like whatever you decide to do!!

I've used it with chocolate but personally I prefer vanilla/white cake and it would be great with that too.

This is one of the best fillings I've ever tasted. If I make extra, I have to make sure I put it down my garbage disposal because I'll stand at the counter and finish it all off with a spoon. Really - I have done this before. It is SO yummy.

I do that as well thumbs_up.gif Double Stuffs. Last week I tried tossing in some cream cheese as I wanted a denser filling and wow, was it yummy!

Well, while we're on the subject....has anyone added crushed up mint oreos? This sounds so yummy to me.
