I am making a bridal shower cake next month, and the theme is daisies. So I would love to make some daisies for the cake, but don't know how! I have never made them before. Any advice? should I use gumpaste or royal icing? any suggestions would be very helpful!
Thanks so much!

If you have cutters for daisies, make them in gumpaste. They are very quick and easy. A six petal cutter works well. You can either make a single layer or a double layer of petals, depending on the look.

The center just needs to be yellow and you can make "pollen" with plain gelatin mixed with yellow powdered food coloring. Paint a small amount of "gum glue" onto the center after it's attached to the flower and then gently put the pollen on the center. A very small palette knife will work well for this, then you can turn over the flower to get rid of the excess.

I love daisies, I'd love to see the photo when you're done.

Here's a link to the PME daisy cutters that I like from Global Sugar Art: http://globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=17376

If you have a Michael's near you and are wanting a quick, inexpensive cutter, they have a set of gumpaste flower cutters that includes daisies.

that cutter looks nice. so i have a stupid question... do the cutters kind of work like cookie cutters? just press down to cut the gumpaste in the shape of a flower? and then do you let the flower dry in one of those curved things? (i have never made flowers before, in case you can't tell!)
and then can i just cover the middle of the flower with the "pollen" like sugarflowers suggested ?

Not a stupid question at all. You got it right. The PME cutter has a plunger so after pressing the cutter in gumpaste, you push the plunger down and it should release the cut flower. You can thin the petals if you wish for a more realistic look and dry in a flower former.

I agree, I would use a cutter if possible. The daisy cake in my pictures is made out of gumpaste daisies and I love how they ended up looking.

Good luck with your cake!

I used the cutter that came in the Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste kit. I think it's the same cutter that comes in the set that is for sale at the craft stores.

If you go to Wilton.com you can click on Decorating Techniques and find Daisies. You make them out of Royal icing. Might be easier than gumpaste if you are not familiar with that medium.
