I neeeed to get an air conditioner because my apartment is soooo hot. We are not allowed to put up the window ones in my apartment building so I have to get a portable one. I bought one that is 6500 btu and it is supposed to cool up to 225 sq ft. My apartment is much bigger than that, I realized, and it does not do *anything* It's as if the ac is not even on. The room in my apartment that I need to cool is actually about 500 sq ft. There is one that is supposed to cool 500 sq ft but it's 800 dollars plus tax and I would really rather not spend that. There is another one that is supposed to cool 425 sq feet and it's only about 500 dollars. So my question is, do you think the one that is supposed to cool 425 sq feet will cool about 500 sq feet if I turn it up to max and use a fan? Any responses are appreciated!

Lowe's has one that cools up to 450 feet, 10,000 btu's see link above. I would think it would do the trick with the fan and make sure you cover any spots where air might escape.

I know a neighbor of mine just bought a 12,000 BTU from QVC for $300 plus free shipping. She just bought it a week ago so they still might have it
