Does anyone have any tips for making a 3D Lightning Mc Queen cake? My 5 year old saw the cake made by cambo and fell in love. Unfortunately I'm not as talented so I'm not sure if I can do this? He also loves the cake by Steady2Hands. I've never attempted FBCT. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

this is a great set of instructions on a 3-D mcqueen.
and ....
don't be self-defeatist!!!! you have to "do it" to learn.
you have to "do it" to improve. forget "perfection" -- tain't no such thing here on earth! instead go for proficiency which comes w/ practice
so make the 3-D cake!
Hey Destini ~ Steady2Hands here,
Which McQueen cake did your son like of mine: 3-D or FBCT? I'd be glad to help you out any way I can!
If I ever do another 3-D I'll laminate the logos like cambo did. I wish I had thought of that.
He absolutely loved the FBCT cake? I've never done a FBCT before. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'm also considering the 3D. He's going to need two cakes anyway. One for school and one for his party. So I'm going to end up doing both. The FBCT will most likely be on a cupcake cake.
I did the McQueen FBCT in 5 sections like I mentioned in my response on the picture. If I do that cake again I will do one large FBCT to cover the whole cake top. I did that for another cake in my pics called "Stick People - Tree of Love". It was so much easier than the small sections. Just be sure you put plenty of background icing on it to keep it from tearing.
I did the 3D Lightning McQueen using the 3D Cruiser pan and it wasn't very hard at all. I added a gumpaste spoiler and covered everything in MMF. You can do it! I think starting with the Cruiser pan would be much easier than trying to carve your own. There are a bunch of fantastic ideas in the gallery to help you figure out how to do one.
