Has anyone made a EXTRA LARGE ribbon rose?? Like 4 to 5 inches??

I'm needing some LARGE flowers for this weekend's cake - a display cake, so I'm not EXTREMELY picky on which flower I use, but I really don't have the time right now to make the flowers ahead of time. So I'm hoping to do a modified version of the ribbon rose.

This is what I'd like to do - tell me if its not possible or it would be horrible.

Do a ribbon rose as its normally done, but LARGE, like 3 inch bands and to make it 4 to 5 inches in diameter. First I'd thin out the petal edges like you would a rose petal, so it'd be more frilly, then wrap it up, putting some puckers in it... what do you think?

I'm going to do a two-toned cake, white BC with airbrushed purple or pink across the diagonal of a square cake side (so half of the cake will be purple/pink and half will be white). Along the diagonal, I'll pipe a BC design to cover up the 'seam'.

On the corners of each tier (the 2 opposite corners) I want ONE large flower.

Can anyone envision this for me and let me know what you think...???
Has anyone done a flower like this?

I have not tried this but it sounds like it will look nice when you are done. Please post pics!
